Kitty party
An afternoon of chaat, not a sit-down lunch.
Four o'clock, pure vegetarian, and everyone is talking rather than eating a full plate. What works is a chaat counter and small plates people can hold in one hand — a heavy thali goes cold on the table.

What to put on the buffet
- Live counter
- Pani puri, sev puri, dahi puri
- Small plates
- Coin vada pav, mini samosa, kothimbir vadi
- Something hot
- Pav bhaji or misal, served from a chafer
- Sweet and tea
- Shrikhand cups, masala chai
What hosts get wrong
Skip the rice and the gravies entirely. At this hour they come back nearly untouched, and the budget is better spent on a second chaat item.
